Global Artisan C-Sink

Global Artisan C-Sink

All over the world and for more than two thousand years, charcoal and vegetable charcoal have been produced for heating, cooking or fertilising the soil. Use the Global Artisan C-Sink Standard for the production, processing and application of vegetable charcoal in agriculture in low, lower and higher middle income countries.

The Global Artisan C-Sink guidelines guarantee in low, lower, middle and higher middle income countries (see country classification below) that the biomass has been sourced and produced in an ecologically sustainable way. Artisanal production using pyrolysis according to the Kon-Tiki process reduces emissions in the production of vegetable carbon. All aspects of the quality of the vegetable carbon are monitored and documented. In addition, C-sink credits can be generated by using the vegetable carbon for agricultural purposes. This offers the possibility to sell CO2 certificates via existing trading platforms and contribute to farmers' income.

Customer benefits

These guidelines offer farmers the opportunity to sell the C-Sink Credits through already existing trading platforms. The additional income generated in this way will help rural communities improve their family incomes and make them a strategic pillar of humanity's decarbonisation efforts at the global level.
